In Mozilla Suite there is a built in feature called Chatzilla that allows you to chat on IRC (Internet Relay Chat). IRC is basicly some servers with different channels where you can chat about any subject you can think of. If you want to know more about IRC check this site http://www.irchelp.org
But if you are using the Mozilla Firefox there is no native support for IRC. You can however use Chatzilla as an extension. If you want to try this extension you can go to http://www.hacksrus.com/~ginda/chatzilla/ where you will find a download link. I talked with one of the contributors to the Chatzilla project James Ross ( nickname Silver ) and he recommended that people should install the latest build called cz0.9.62dp . After the installation you must quit the browser and then open it again.
I will give some very basic information so you can get a good start.
You can open the Chatzilla if you go to Tools -> Chatzilla
Try click on the Moznet link you find under available Network in the top of the page If it is the first time you use the network you will be asked for a nickname Type in a nickname (you can change it later)
Now you will have the Mozilla IRC Network open. There will be page with various links to Mozilla related subjects. Try to go to the Mozillazine channel by clicking on the link. You can also write /join #mozillazine in the button of the screen Now you will be taken to to the Mozillazine channel. Try to look what others write on the channel in the start. You can of course also ask questions
There is a channel about chatzilla on Mozilla server I mentioned before. You can get there by typing /j chatzilla in button ( short for /join #chatzilla ) But before you ask questions about Chatzilla be sure to read the FAQ that you will find a link to in the channel.
If you want a certain channel to open at the start you can right click that channel and then select "Open This Channel at Startup"
I have added an icon to Chatzilla in the upper right instead of that animated thing. That way I have easy acces to my chatzilla. You can in tip 7 read how you do that.
I hope you will give IRC a try, there are lots of friendly people you can meet and chat with. |
